Forgotten Footballer FAQ

How does Forgotten Footballer work?

Each day features a mystery Premier League player. You'll see a blurred image and need to identify the player. You start with 6 guesses and can use hints to reveal additional information like the player's club, position, or nationality.

What counts as a correct guess?

You need to select the exact player from our database. The search function will help you find players by typing their name. Make sure to select the player from the dropdown rather than just typing their name.

How do hints work?

You can reveal different types of hints to help identify the player:

  • • Reduce Blur: Makes the player image clearer
  • • Club: Shows which team(s) the player played for
  • • Position: Reveals the player's position on the field
  • • Nationality: Shows the player's country
  • • Age: Displays the player's current age or age at retirement

Each hint costs 1 point from your final score, so use them strategically!

How is my score calculated?

Your score is calculated as follows:

  • • Start with a base score of 1000 points
  • • Lose 100 points for each incorrect guess
  • • Lose 50 points for each hint revealed
  • • Bonus points for solving quickly

The faster you solve it with fewer hints, the higher your score!

Which players are featured?

We feature players from Premier League history, including current stars, legends, and some "forgotten" players who may not be household names but played in the Premier League. The selection covers all eras of the Premier League since its inception in 1992.

Can I play previous days' games?

Currently, each game is available for one day only to maintain the daily challenge format. However, we're considering adding an archive feature for premium users. Stay tuned for updates!

What is Footle?

Footle is our football-themed word game. You need to guess a football-related word within a limited number of attempts. Each guess provides feedback to help you narrow down the correct answer.

How do I play Footle?
  1. 1. You'll see a grid with empty spaces representing letters
  2. 2. Type your guess - it must be a valid football-related word
  3. 3. Letters will be highlighted based on correctness:
    • • Green - Correct letter in correct position
    • • Yellow - Correct letter in wrong position
    • • Gray - Letter not in the word

What types of words are used in Footle?

Footle words are all football-related and can include player names, team names, football terms, positions, tactics, competitions, and general football vocabulary. Words can vary in length and difficulty.

Account & Technical

Do I need an account to play?

You can play our games without an account, but creating one allows you to track your statistics, build streaks, save your progress, and compete with friends. Accounts are free and only require an email address.

How do streaks work?

A streak counts consecutive days where you successfully complete the daily game. If you miss a day or fail to solve the puzzle, your streak resets to zero. Streaks are tracked separately for each game type.

Can I play on mobile devices?

Yes! Our games are fully responsive and work great on phones and tablets. The interface adapts to your screen size for the best possible experience on any device.

I can't find a player in the search

Our database includes thousands of Premier League players, but if you can't find someone, try different spellings or check if they actually played in the Premier League. Some players may be listed under different name variations. If you believe a player is missing, let us know!

My statistics seem wrong

Statistics are updated in real-time as you play. If you notice discrepancies, try logging out and back in. Statistics are tied to your account, so make sure you're logged in when playing if you want them tracked.
