Gary Rowett's playing career took him from a brief spell at Everton through spells at Derby County, Leicester City and Charlton Athletic, where his reading of the game as a composed central defender was always evident. He went on to have arguably an even more notable career in the dugout, managing Birmingham City, Derby, Stoke City and Millwall.
