Frédéric Kanouté was a tall, languid striker who played for West Ham and Tottenham in the Premier League before moving to Sevilla, where he enjoyed his greatest success and was named the 2007 African Footballer of the Year — the first player born outside Africa to win the award. He scored 11 goals in 32 appearances for West Ham in 2000-01, his finest English season.
