A centre forward with touch far too good for his frame, Dean Ashton went from Crewe to Norwich to West Ham and scored 10 in 31 during 2007-08. He scored in the 2006 FA Cup final and won a single England cap, but an ankle injury picked up in England training forced him to retire at just 26. One of the great what-ifs.
