Steve Nicol was already a Liverpool legend by the time the Premier League began, having won league titles and the European Cup during the 1980s, and he added three more seasons at Anfield before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday. The versatile Scottish defender, comfortable across the back four and midfield, made 116 appearances in this stretch and won plenty of caps for Scotland.
