Mathieu Flamini was a tenacious box-to-box midfielder who served Arsenal across two separate spells and later played for AC Milan, bringing energy and bite to every midfield he operated in. Off the pitch he became equally notable as co-founder of GF Biochemicals, the first company in the world to mass-produce levulinic acid.
