A flamboyant Colombian forward, Faustino Asprilla joined Newcastle United from Parma in February 1996 and quickly became a cult hero, his unpredictable flair lighting up St James' Park during Kevin Keegan's thrilling near-miss title chase. He scored 4 goals in 24 appearances in his best 1996-97 season, but is best remembered for a sensational Champions League hat-trick against Barcelona in 1997. A mercurial entertainer who also starred for Colombia at two World Cups, he remains one of the Premier League's most fondly recalled imports.
